The Reality of Educational Media throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi Secondary Schools in the United Arab Emirates from the Perspectives of Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the reality of educational media throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi secondary schools in the United Arab Emirates from the perspectives of students. To attain the study purpose, the researchers prepared a questionnaire consisted of 63 statements in its final format as an instrument for data collection. Upon the completion of stating the questionnaire items, the researchers tested its reliability as well as validity. The study instrument had been divided into five major domains. Such domains were school media, instructional technology, school broadcasting, forums/lectures, and local community/family-school communication. Then, (384) questionnaires, representing a (15.61%) of the study population were received. Findings revealed that both school media and instructional technology domains congruently ranked first with a mean of (2.43), and third school broadcasting with a mean of (2.41). Nevertheless, forums/ lectures and local community/family-school communication ranked with a lowest mean of (2.40) correspondingly. The overall mean of the study sample responses was (2.42) however. Additionally, the study findings indicated that there were significant statistical differences due to the independent variable of grade level amongst all domains. Besides, there were significant statistical differences due to the independent variables of gender between all domains except female students’ responses to the local community/family-school communication. Based on the findings, the researchers provided several recommendations in order to activate the role of educational media all through secondary schools in Abu Dhabi. The most important of which, from the researchers’ estimation, would be conducting a similar futuristic field study to shed light on triggering the educational media role within the Emirati schools taking into account all stages

Arabic Abstract الملخص باللغة العربية

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف على واقع الإعلام التربوي في المدارس الثانوية بإمارة أبوظبي في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة من وجهة نظر الطلبة. تم إعداد استبانة مكونة بصورتها النهائية بعد التأكد من صدقها وثباتها من 63 فقرة موزعة على خمسة مجالات وهي (الصحافة المدرسية، والتكنولوجيا التدريسية، والإذاعة المدرسية، والندوات والمحاضرات، والتواصل مع الأسرة والمجتمع المحلي). وزعت على عينة الدراسة من 384 طالب وطالبة أي بنسبة (15,61%) من مجتمع الدراسة لجمع البيانات. أظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن مجالي الصحافة المدرسية والتكنولوجيا التدريسية جاءت في المرتبة الأولى بأعلى متوسط حسابي بلغ (2.43)، ومجال الإذاعة المدرسية في المرتبة الثالثة بمتوسط حسابي (2.41). بينما جاء مجالي الندوات والمحاضرات والتواصل مع الأسرة والمجتمع المحلي في المرتبة الأخيرة وبمتوسط حسابي بلغ (2.40). وبلغ المتوسط الحسابي للأداة ككل (2.42). كما أظهرت نتائج الدراسة وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية (0.05=ألفا) تعزى لأثر الصف في جميع المجالات، ووجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية (0.05=ألفا) تعزى لأثرالجنس في جميع المجالات، باستثناء مجال التواصل مع الأسرة والمجتمع المحلي. وجاءت الفروق لصالح الإناث. وبناء على نتائج الدراسة، قدم الباحثان عدة توصيات من أهمها إجراء دراسات مستقبلية ميدانية لتسليط الضوء على دور الإعلام التربوي في المدارس الثانوية وتفعيله في المدارس بمختلف المراحل.
