Abstract
The need for the education sector to deliver on its goals has always been a major expectation of all stakeholders in the system. For this expectation to be met, the major resources in the school system must be combined in a reasonable proportion. On this premise, this study investigated the relationship between resource utilisation and quality of education in Lagos State. The study was conducted using descriptive survey research design with a population of 664 public secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. These schools had a total population of 23,793 teachers. A self-developed instrument titled “Education Resource Utilisation and Quality of Education Questionnaire (ERUQEQ)” was used to collect data. Experts in test and instrument development validated the instrument, while its reliability was ascertained through a pilot test. A reliability coefficient of .81 was obtained; this was considered good enough for administration. The three hypotheses stated were tested using regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that all the elements of resource (human, physical, and financial) utilisation significantly predicted the quality of secondary education. It is, therefore, recommended that for schools to achieve and maintain high standards of education, a comprehensive approach to resource management is essential.
