Abstract
Educational leadership programs play an important role in preparing future leaders to deal with the challenges of educational settings. However, relying only on theoretical knowledge may not be enough to develop the skills and mindset required for an effective leadership role. In addition, this study aimed to explore the role of practical training and experiential learning in shaping leadership skills and leadership identity among students enrolled in educational leadership programs. This study utilized a mixed-methods design. First, quantitative data were collected via a questionnaire distributed to 24 participants, including master's and PhD students and educators in leadership roles in schools. Second, qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 participants to gain deeper insights into their experiences. The findings of this study showed that participants strongly value practical training and experiential learning. The results indicated strong agreement on the importance of internships, mentorship, and real-life leadership experiences for developing leadership skills and improving readiness for leadership roles. In addition, the study found a gap between theory and practice, as participants felt that real understanding happens through experience. Based on these findings, the study suggests that educational leadership programs should place greater emphasis on integrating practical training into the curriculum.
