Abstract

Construction industry is one of the most important and largest industries. It has a high rate of worker injuries and death. There are many factors that may increase the rate of construction accidents. Studying these factors will contribute in reducing these rates, thus, reduce the negative effects from them. Through this research, the important factors affecting the safety of construction workers in Saudi Arabia have been studied to determine the most important factors. The scope of research includes specialists in construction companies who are classified in the field of "Buildings". Descriptive Survey Method was used in this research. 64 factors affecting the safety of workers were determined and classified into four categories: (Human, Project Nature, Environmental, and Safety Management). A questionnaire was developed and addressed to specialists in construction companies that are classified in the field of "Buildings" which found to be 2,873 companies. The number of responses were 1,021. The results revealed that the most important classification group was "Safety Management". In addition, it was found that the top five most important factors were: (providing safety equipment and clothing, providing a site safety supervisor, safety training, site safety training, and providing safety administration). The research recommends to take positive measures by contractors to reduce the impact of dominant factors and provide some of the requirements for effective safety management.
