Abstract

The complaint about the difficulty of Arabic language grammar has been the case for quite some time but it has increased in the modern age in a way that makes grammar courses difficult to be understood and accepted. Thus, many attempts of renewing grammar sought to overcome its difficulties and pass its obstacles in the past and present but these attempts increased in the modern age exaggeratedly. Ways to overcome such difficulties varied between addressing the rules of grammar in modern ways with a need to reduce the use of grammar by deleting and brevity, attempts that called for changing the grammar approach itself and replacing it with modern linguistic methods, and attempts that called for the destruction of the Arabic grammar and replacing it with dialects in the different aspects of life.

Based on the above, this study aims to identify the level of success of such Arabic Grammar modernization attempts; and its impact on the methods used to teach Arabic to students at different educational levels. In order to achieve the goal and purpose of the study, the researcher used the two approaches: inductive and descriptive, in the theoretical part of the study. Whereas in the practical part, the researcher applied the previous approaches in addition to the statistical approach to demonstrate the results in some cases, a selected sample of TV programs from (Abu Dhabi National Geographic Channel) was taken, as it represents the eloquent Arabic language at the operative level in the modern era.

The results of the study showed that the standard method in teaching Arabic grammar cannot be replaced, but some flexibility is acceptable in some grammar rules that are not used in the modern age. It also concluded that Shawqi Dhaif was the ideal model for renewing Arab grammar in its deletion and abbreviation of many of the rules not currently used. The study also showed that it is possible to take advantage of what resulted from modern linguistic thinking, in terms of dividing the Arabic language into levels, and these are separated based on the context in which they are, and that modern linguistic approaches can be used to re-teach grammar according to modern foundations and methods.
