Kindergarten Teacher Perceptions of the Quality and Impact of Mentors in leading Instructional and Professional Development in AI Ain - United Arab Emirates

يعد الإرشاد التربوي من الاستراتيجيات المهمة في التطوير المهني للمعلم حيث يساعد في إعداد نوعية ذات جودة عالية من معملي مرحلة الطفولة المبكرة. وتستهدف هذه الدراسة التعرف الى مدى استفادة معلمات رياض الأطفال من المشاركة في البرنامج التعليمي الذي ينفذه مجلس أبو ظبي للتعليم هن حيث التالي: قيمة الإرشاد التربوي، ونوعية المرشد وبالإضافة إلى أثره على مستوى تدريسهم وعلى نموهم المهنى كذلك. تم تطبيق هذه الدراسة على عشر مدارس لرياض الأطفل في منطقة العين التعليمية حيث شارك 150 معلما في الدراسة الصحية لتحديد ما إذا كانوا فد تلقوا نشاط إرشادي وكيف يقيمون جودة الإرشاد التربوي المقدم لهم وكذلك مستوى المرشدين الذين تعاملوا معهم من حيث مساعدتهم في الارتقاء بأدائهم التدريسي وكذلك نموهم المهني.

كشفت نتائج الدراسة أن معظم المعلمين في العينة ينظرون إلى عمليات الإرشاد الذي قدم لهم على أنه أداة أثرت بشكل إيجابي على أدائهم التدريسي، كما أن النتائج أشارت إلى أن معظم المعلمين المشاركين في الإرشاد يرون بأن المرشدين الذين يتعاملون معهم يتمتعون بالسمات الشخصية وكذلك الجودة في المعرفة التي تسهم في جعل عملية الإرشاد نات فعالية. بالإضافة إلى أن النتائج أشارت إلى أن أغلب المشاركين في الدراسة يعتقدون بأن هناك تأثير قوي لعمليات الإرشاد وللمرشدين على المعلمين وعلى أدائهم التدريسي.

Abstract

Mentoring is an important teacher professional development strategy that can produce a pool of quality early childhood educators. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of Kindergarten teachers participating in the mentorship program implemented by Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) on value of mentorship practice, quality of mentor and mentor's impact on their teaching and professional development. The study was completed at ten Kindergarten schools in AI Ain educational zone. The subjects of 150 teachers participated in a survey to determine if they perceive the mentorship practice and to examine how they perceive the quality of mentors and their impact on improving teaching practices and professional development for teachers in Kindergarten schools.

The findings of the study indicated that most of Kindergarten teachers in the sample perceive mentorship process as tool to positively impact their teaching. The findings on the mentee's perception of the personal attributes and quality of their mentor indicated that mentors in Kindergarten schools demonstrate quality and personal attributes that are associated to the effective mentorship. The findings of the study also indicated a significant impact of mentors and mentorship practice on teaching practices and teachers' professional development in Kindergarten schools, as most participants believe that mentorship process has made them better teachers.
